THE PROBLEM

Unpaid Rent Is Easy To Ignore

When a Tenant moves out owing money, Landlords are left with the loss. Without
accountability, unpaid rent is easy to ignore and hard to recover.

THE SOLUTION

An Alternative to Rent Debt Collection Services

When you report rental debt to the Credit Bureaus, it becomes harder
to ignore and easier to recover.

Why Reporting Rental Debt Works

When unpaid rent is reported to the Credit Bureaus, it becomes harder
to ignore. What was once easy to walk away from becomes a financial
obligation that follows the Tenant until it’s resolved.

When unpaid rent is reported to the Credit Bureaus, it becomes harder to ignore. What was once easy to walk away from becomes a financial obligation that follows the Tenant until it’s resolved.

How It Works

Unpaid rental debt is reported to the major Credit Bureaus.

The debt appears on the Tenant’s credit report as an
outstanding balance.

Future Lenders and Landlords can see the unpaid debt when
making decisions.

Reporting unpaid rent does not require consent, when used
for debt recovery. Read our legal framework to learn why.

The Impact

Tenants are more likely to take action to resolve unpaid rent.

Unpaid rent becomes visible beyond the lease. The debt is no longer just between you and the Former Tenant.

Lenders and future Landlords may consider the unpaid balance when reviewing applications.

Debt Reporting gives you a compliant recovery path without court orders, collection agencies, or commissions.

TOP QUESTIONS

Things You Need To Know

Everything you need to know about pricing, compliance, and how
FrontLobby works.

What is FrontLobby and how can it help me recover unpaid rent?

FrontLobby is a powerful Rent Reporting platform that helps Landlords recover unpaid rent by reporting debts to the major Credit Bureaus. When a former Tenant leaves with an outstanding balance, you can report that debt through FrontLobby. The unpaid amount appears on the Tenant's credit report for up to seven years, making it harder for them to secure new housing or credit until it's resolved. Unlike traditional collection methods, there's no commission. You keep 100% of any money recovered.

Do I need the Tenant's consent or a court order to report the debt?

No. Under U.S. consumer reporting laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, a Landlord does not need the Tenant’s consent or a court judgment to report rental debt. What you do need is accurate, verifiable information about the lease, the unpaid rent, and the amount owed. FrontLobby helps you report this information properly and securely.

What information do I need to report a debt?

You’ll need to provide your name, date of birth, and contact details for identity verification. You will also need the Tenant’s name, date of birth, contact information, and, optionally, their Social Security Number (SSN). Lease information is also required, including the property address, monthly rent, lease end date, and the amount still owed.

How long does unpaid rent stay on a Tenant's credit report?

Rental debt can remain on a Tenant's credit file for up to seven years. If the Tenant makes a partial payment, the balance decreases, but the debt remains visible until it's fully paid.

What happens after I report the debt?

Once submitted, FrontLobby notifies the former Tenant by email. Then, on the 15th day of every month, FrontLobby reports any unresolved debts to the Credit Bureaus. This cycle begins the month after the rent first became past due.

What does Debt Reporting cost?

FrontLobby offers reporting for a one-time fee of $199 per debt reported. No Premium membership is required. There are no hidden charges, and you keep all money collected from your Tenant.

Which Credit Bureaus does FrontLobby report to?

FrontLobby reports to TransUnion, Equifax, Experian and the Landlord Credit Bureau. That means your Tenant's outstanding debt will appear on all major consumer credit profiles.

Can I report a Tenant who is currently living at my property?

Reporting current Tenant debts requires an active Premium FrontLobby membership. Once upgraded, you can report any outstanding balances and ongoing rent payments for all your current Tenants.

To get started, please email us at support@frontlobby.com or book a call to speak with a FrontLobby specialist.

What else can I do with FrontLobby?

FrontLobby is more than a Debt Reporting platform. In addition to reporting unpaid rent to the Credit Bureaus, FrontLobby provides Tenant Screening services to help Landlords make informed decisions before placing a Tenant.

Landlords can also use Rent Reporting for current Tenants to report both on-time and missed rent payments to the major Credit Bureaus. This creates accountability throughout the Tenancy and reinforces consistent payment behavior.

With a free FrontLobby membership, Housing Providers can also access Landlord Assist, a complimentary AI tool that delivers instant answers to common landlord legal and compliance questions.

Together, these tools support transparency, reduce delinquency risk, and help create a more responsible rental environment. Learn more at FrontLobby.com.
